2011 was an amazing year for us at Scott Blackburn Photo.
It started with a bang, on New Years Day I shot one of my favorite bands, the Stanfields.
I also worked with other amazing local artists Carmel Mikol, Ian Sherwood, Rain over Saint Ambrose, Dress Code Casual, Carleton Stone, Andrew Hunter and The Gatherers, Hello, Click, Thom Swift and great friend Ryan MacGrath. The Coast kept me busy, I shot six covers this year including Three Sheet, Molly Thomason, Hind Legs, Jon McKiel, Rich Aucoin and tons of other assignments. Shot some amazing concerts including U2, arcade Fire 3 times!!!! Dropkick Murphy’s, Flogging Molly, the Sheepdogs three times, Film star/Director/Comedian Kevin Smith, NOFX and Broken Social Scene. Traveled to Toronto for the 2011 Junos Week, where I shot five days of amazing Canadian music. I also went to the EMCA’s in Charlottetown PEI and NSMW in Yarmouth and who could forget about Halifax Pop Explosion, what an amazing line up this year!
On the weddings side, we shot our first destination wedding in London, England for great friends of ours Kendra and Jon. We also had some amazing wedding clients here in Nova Scotia like Mel and Ian, Monique and Andrew, Nancy and Dan, Clara and Brent, Tracy and Phillip, Amanda and Eli, Nadine and Daniel, Sarah and Andrew and Wendy and John.
I Shot some architecture and Interiors and even a restaurant menu for Your Father’s Mustache!
And how can I forget the Canada Games? What a fantastic experience that was! I’ve got a whole new appreciation for athletes and sports photographers. The City was so alive for the few weeks we held the event, everybody did a great job!!
We have lots planned for 2012!
Keep Posted for all the news!
I was asked to do the Halloween cover this year at The Coast, which was amazing! Then I found out it was going to be one of Halifax’s hottest music acts, Rich Aucoin, I was ecstatic!!!
When I finally got a hold of Rich (who had been touring, what seemed to be the entire world) we set the date for the day after his CD release show (which was the best show I saw since the summer’s U2/ Arcade Fire show).
I got permission from the putting edge to use their facilities for the shoot, and because the whole place is covered in black lights it made the perfect location for the shoot.
I had a bit of help on the shoot from my wife (Jocelyn), My sister (Sondra) who did the facepaint and an amazing artist (Geordan Moore) from Quarrelsome yeti who I commissioned to do a glow in the dark painting of some monsters. Unfortunately Geordan’s painting weren’t used, but my editor did print me out a mock up of the cover, which was pretty awesome of him to do.
This was one of my favorite covers I’ve done to date, we had a great time on the shoot and Rich was a great sport about the whole, having to be face painted part. Thanks Holmes!
We also shot some shots at my place on a plain white background of some Rich dressed up in some of this years musical trends such as Witch House, Garage/shitgaze/lo-fi, Dubstep and Freak Folk.
Thanks for all the kind words and feedback on this one folks!
Curtis and Alex contacted us a few months ago about shooting their wedding. This is the engagement session that we shot last week for them. We had a great time and are beyond excited to shoot their wedding in August next year!! Hopefully we’ll get to see Kya (the gorgeous doggie in the pics) then too!
